I've been involved with local and national networking groups for well over a decade, so I've seen plenty of different approaches to networking.
But when I joined a golf networking group, I was genuinely disappointed. The main focus always seemed to be on the golf, rather than the people in the group.
Too many people left because they felt they "got nothing out of it". And it was frustrating to see people come and go before there was ever a chance to build any real relationships.
We had plenty of golf. What we didn't have enough of was networking.
There was lots of churn, which of course can be viewed as a good thing, but I always felt there was too much emphasis on the golf and, quite frankly, lip service when it came to the networking.
So what happens when you see something that you think could be done better?
Well, I had a bit of a Victor Kiam and Remington moment... (For those of you old enough to remember this, well done. For everyone else, there's always Google!)
I thought, why not do something about it myself?
